The Russian Communist Party rallied support from 177 deputies Wednesday (20/5) for a motion aimed at launching impeachment proceedings against President Boris Yeltsin. The long and complicated impeachment procedure looked unlikely to succeed, but the Communists obtained more than the 150 signatures necessary to put the matter to a vote in both houses of parliament -- the next stage after examination of the motion by a special parliamentary commission.
