On November 10, 2024, California Highway Patrol officers in Eureka California, tried to stop a speeding white Hyundai Elantra with no taillights after they observed it turning onto State Route 255 from H Street, the driver failed to stop leading to a high speed chase that reached speeds of 130 miles per hour on US Highway 101 in an attempt to evade the authorities.
Officers successfully deployed spike strips at the entrance to Redwood Burl. The Hyundai made a U-turn near Mid-City Motor World and fled northbound on Highway 101 on three tires. The Elantra eventually stopped at the Indianola Cutoff Exit. The driver fled on foot into a nearby field with heavy brush, evading capture until 12:47 a.m., when he emerged with his hands up. The driver, identified as Jadon Osenbaugh, was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Jail on multiple charges:
