Understanding ME/CFS with Dr. Klimas & Haylie Pomroy

Together with Haylie Pomroy, Dr. Nancy Klimas goes deep into the complexities of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) was defined in the early ‘90s. Dr. Klimas describes its name as “misleading,” as the illness involves much more than just fatigue.

In England and Europe, doctors used the term myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), which means muscle pain (myalgic), brain (encephalo), and inflammation (myelitis).

Dr. Klimas believes this name better represents the illness, as it is a brain disease with inflammation affecting both the brain and muscles.
