Sitar Conversations, Part 6: HOW DO WE PLUCK THE SITAR?

The sitar has a wide tonal palette which we can access by changing the angle and location at which we strike the string. This affects timbre, sustain, harmonics...

All plucking is done with a plectrum worn on the index finger, called a mizrab, which sits on the finger and allows our hand to move freely. The thumb remains anchored for stability. All of this gives us the ability to be very agile with our plucking patterns!
