Former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev on Tuesday (18/03 compared Boris Yeltsin's health crisis to the last days of ailing USSR leader Leonid Brezhnev. Yeltsin has been holed up in a country residence since Friday (13/03) and has cancelled a series of top level meetings.
Russian MPs have also been concerned with the President's health. On Wednesday (18/03) Gennady Burbulis, a personal friend of Yeltsin and a top minister in his first cabinet, admitted the president was ill and this was now affecting the country's politics and economy.
