About this video
A level measurement transmitter or sensor is an instrument used to determine the level of liquid or bulk solid at a particular time. The level transmitter provides an electrical output proportional to the level of a liquid, or bulk solid in a confined space.
There are two main classifications of level transmitters:
Point level transmitter and Continuous level transmitter.
Point level transmitters are designed to indicate whether the liquid has reached a specific point, while continuous levels are used to render precise liquid level measurements.
Types of level transmitters include:
1. Hydrostatic level transmitter:
Measures the hydrostatic pressure which is proportional to the measured liquid height.
2. Magnetic level transmitter:
Creates a compacting magnetic field to generate a signal corresponding to liquid level.
3. Capacitance level transmitter:
Measures the change in capacitance that occurs as the tank level changes.
4. Ultrasonic level transmitter:
Measures the time between sound energy transmitted from the sensor, to the surface of the measured material and the echo returning to the sensor.
5. Guided microwave level transmitter:
Uses the principle of Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR).
6. Radar Level transmitter:
Measures the distance by measuring the time of flight of a travelling wave.
