Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Day 3 of this fifth and final Test match between Australia and England coming live from SCG. Day 3 the moving day in Test cricket and for the first time in this series we probably mean it. First things first. It is the traditional Pink Day in Sydney the Jane McGrath Day.

The SCG will be swamped in pink as the McGrath Foundation is raising donations in support of Breast Cancer. Joe Root scored his 41st Test century and hit a wonderful 160 adding valuable partnerships of 169 with Brook (84) 94 with Jamie Smith (46) 52 with Will Jacks (27) before Australia bundled out England for 384 in 97.3 overs at stroke tea yesterday. Michael Neser shone with the second new ball and picked up 4 wickets.

The rest of the all-seam attack chipped in. Even Marnus Labuschagne got a wicket seeing Smith play a 'filty stroke' just before lunch. Post that it was fully Travis Head who is on 91 and will look to cruise through his 3rd Test century in the early stages of the first session today. He set the platform with Jake Weatherald (21) and Marnus Labuschagne (48) adding partnerships of 57 and 105 respectively. Iqbal Sports. KM Punk.

Both set batters were dismissed by Ben Stokes while the Ashes debutant Matthew Potts bowled all over the pace fed the Aussies with some hit-me balls. Australia will resume from 166/2 with Head and nightwatchman Neser (1) continuing them. The hosts trail by 218 runs. If no rain interruptions one of the two teams should be taking the lead in the evening session later. Michael Neser was receiving treatment after copping a blow on his right elbow.

We still had 5 balls left in the Stokes but then the rain arrived! The groundmen rush in with the covers meaning that we won't return for any further play today!!! Australia have found a way back into this Test match after leaving England to dominate the opening day! They are 166/2 in 34.1 overs and trail by 218 runs! The visitors were at a strong position at 211/3 after opting to bat first before the rain curtailed the first day.

Harry Brook and Joe Root were involved in a fabulous 169-run fourth-wicket stand to rebuild the sinking ship from 57/3. Brook scored 84 while Root notched up a record 41st Test century and hit 160. Root was involved a further two important partnerships: 94 with Jamie Smith for the 6th wicket and 52 with Will Jacks for the 7th wicket.

The second ball sort of did wonders for the Aussies especially Neser making it talk and ensuring that the English innings ended at 384 in 97.3 overs at the stroke of tea. Scott Boland added another wicket to his tally dismissing Brook earlier day. Mitchell Starc also added another scalp removing his bunny Ben Stokes with a beauty for an 11-ball duck.

Smith rode multiple luck during his breezy knock of 46 but was out while playing an absolutely filthy stroke against Marnus Labuschagne just before lunch. Neser finished with a four-fer while Cameron Green who messed things up against Smith got a wicket with his second new ball. Travis Head came out all guns blazing and got plenty of hit-me deliveries with Matthew Potts bowling all over the place. Crictalks. Ashes Live. Ashes 2026 Live.
