Hey everyone! Welcome back to the channel 💥
Today I am sharing my honest, non-spoiler reaction to the brand-new Malayalam horror movie Dies Irae, starring Pranav Mohanlal, directed by the same filmmaker who made the critically acclaimed horror film Bhoothakaalam.
Yesterday night, me and my friends decided to do something exciting — we booked the Friday midnight 12 AM show for Dies Irae. Let me tell you, watching a horror movie in a theatre at midnight is a whole next-level vibe! 😱🌙🔥
The atmosphere, the silence, the darkness outside, and that tension inside the theatre — pure cinematic thrill!
We went in with super high expectations because many people online, especially early viewers and a few reviewers, gave this movie an over-hyped rating. So, naturally we were curious — “Is the film really that intense?”
And honestly... we felt the hype influenced us a bit. We entered expecting something unbelievably mind-blowing. And when expectations go too high, sometimes the real movie feels slightly different from what you built in your mind.
But here is our honest opinion:
⭐ Dies Irae is a very unique Malayalam horror film.
It has a slow-burn atmosphere, psychological depth, extremely controlled performances, and only less than 10 actors in the whole film — yet each one of them delivered to their maximum potential. The movie does not depend on jump scares; instead it builds mood, sound, silence, and fear in a realistic way.
If you loved Bhoothakaalam, you will definitely feel that similar filmmaking tone here — emotional depth + psychological horror + grounded, human fear instead of cheap jump scares.
🎭 Pranav Mohanlal Performance
This is one of Pranav Mohanlal’s most mature performances.
He controlled emotions, expressions, and silence beautifully. No over-acting, no unnecessary heroism — this film demanded subtle acting, and Pranav delivered that.
Every expression was meaningful. Every scene had weight. I genuinely felt proud watching him growing so much as an actor.
🎧 Sound Design = MASTERPIECE
This movie is an audio treat — if you love cinema where sound plays a major role, you MUST experience Dies Irae in theatre.
The background score, silence, breathing sounds, footsteps, distant noises — everything builds tension and panic. This film proves again that Malayalam cinema is evolving beyond normal horror.
🎬 Direction & Screenplay
The director who gave us Bhoothakaalam once again proved he understands horror rooted in reality.
No forced comedy.
No unnecessary romance.
No commercial gimmicks.
Just pure emotional-psychological horror.
The pace is slow deliberately — this is not a popcorn jump-scare movie.
Instead, every scene slowly builds fear.
🎥 Cinematography
The lighting, long shots, shadow work, and camera pauses made the film feel real and terrifying.
When a movie can scare you without showing anything directly, that's real horror.
😨 Is it scary?
If you expect jumps and CGI ghosts — NO.
If you fear silence, tension, and psychological panic — YES.
🧠 Movie Purpose
This film demands patience.
If you go with expectation like “Bang bang horror scenes and rapid scares!”, you might not connect.
But if you appreciate cinema made with aesthetics, sound craft, emotion, and psychological realism, you will enjoy it deeply.
✅ Final Verdict
