Shocking Cruise Ship Horror: The True Story 🚢

On December 27th 2015 chief electrician Jose Sandoval Opazo, 66, from Miami, was doing routine maintenance on an elevator on the sixth floor of The Carnival Ecstasy Cruise Ship. Jose was standing on top of the car when it started to move upwards. Unfortunately for Jose he had disabled the safety feature on the elevator before he started working on it, so there was no way the elevator was going to stop. Tragically Jose was killed when he was crushed between the walls of the elevator shaft. Passengers onboard the ship started to notice large amounts of blood streaming down the front of the elevator doors on the seventh floors and eighth floors. Like a scene from a horror movie, they couldn't believe what they were seeing. If that wasn't bad enough a man emerged from inside the lift covered in blood.

After realising what was happening crew members ushered passengers away from the area and cordoned off the elevator. The passengers who witnessed the incident were so traumatised and some of them needed counselling to help them process what they saw. An inquest into the death revealed a jumper cable was found on the elevator override system, which is a common practice used by electricians to override safety systems on elevators.
