Wild Red Fox Mom Splits Her Litter: 6 Pups in One Den, 1 All Alone

This footage from multiple trail cameras at two different wild fox dens catches the mom fox, Sage, splitting her litter of 7 fox pups. She leaves 6 pups in a group at their natal den, while bringing only one to a new den. Splitting the litter of fox pups here has happened in previous years, but usually the groups have had multiple pups, not one pup alone. This lone pup will spend several days by itself before more pups join it. Mom fox continues to nurse and bring prey to both groups of pups, although she seems to really enjoy spending quality time with the one pup. This nature documentary shows a single wild fox mom trying to survive in northern New York State on Lake Ontario. 🦊🦊
