Humans do not have gills and so we cannot remove the oxygen we need from the water in this way. A person's ability to hold their breath can be increased if the person exercises regularly, is a diver or professional athlete.
There are humans (Bajau Laut- sea nomads) who can hold their breath for longer durations underwater. However, it is biologically impossible to evolve to live underwater in a short period.
