Transport Layer Security (TLS) is the most used cryptographic protocol for protecting our everyday computer communications. It is used all over the Internet for protecting web browsing, online commerce, and emails, to name a few. Nowadays, TLS is increasingly used also in embedded systems and for machine-to-machine communications. Such applications benefit from solutions that bring TLS connectivity directly into the digital logic, for example, in an FPGA. However, the development of quantum computers and security threats it raises are shaping the way we look at cybersecurity and cryptography, including TLS. New post-quantum cryptosystems are introduced in many protocols to protect them from the emerging quantum threat.
