Church Rejects Polygamy Denial ✝️

POLYGAMY DENIAL. The church just barely released this article where they come out very strongly on polygamy denial.

There's a small but growing cohort of individuals who insist that Joseph Smith never practiced polygamy, but rather Brigham Young introduced the practice after Joseph's death.

They then tried to have Brigham Young attribute the practice to Joseph Smith to give it legitimacy.

The reality though is that the historical record does not support this, and the church has just come out saying as much.

The article insists, yes, Joseph Smith introduced this practice—we have lots of documentation for this—and later faithful men and women gave sworn testimony of it.

They emphasize that rather than deny this historical practice, we can apply principles found in this other article to help us better understand it.

I think the real rub is that the practice of plural marriage can make people deeply uncomfortable, understadably.

But this theory is not grounded in good historical work, and instead of discarding or rewriting that history, I think we should earnestly grapple with it.
