Russian Prime Minister Sergei Kiriyenko on Thursday (20/8) briefed top foreign investors in Russia on his government's plans to rescue the country's economy. The meeting came a week after the Russian rouble plunged against the US dollar and left a huge question mark over Kiriyenko's economic reforms. Viktor Chernomyrdin, former prime minister and leader of the Our Home is Russia party, called on the government of Sergei Kiriyenko to admit who was guilty for the current instability. Russia's central bank chairman Sergei Dubinin called on the Russian bank system to close ranks to protect savers. Gennady Zyuganov, communist leader, insisted all guilt lay at the feet of president Boris Yeltsin. He expressed his party's repeated call for Yeltsin to resign.
