About this video
Queen Wilhelmina of The Netherlands in exile in Londen during WW-II.
When Germany invaded the Netherlands in 1940, Queen Wilhelmina was forced to evacuate to the United Kingdom. At first she refused but after strong pressure from her cabinet she left The Netherlands together with part of the Dutch government who continued as a war cabinet.
To this day, Queen Wilhelmina's flee to the UK is a controversial subject. Many Dutch citizens understood her decision and appreciated her regular broadcasts via Radio Orange, but a significant number of citizens still brand her as a coward, despite the fact that she would most likely have become a German 'puppet' or even enjailed if she had stayed.
This controversy is clearly reflected in the comments below this video and seems to have made my videos about Wilhelmina the least popular on my channel. All I would just say is: "Don't shoot the messenger'!
This is a software-enhanced and artificially colorized film.
