About this video
Hi everybody! This video is the launch of big series that's been a long time in the making, so I'm glad you're here!
Over a year ago bestselling science fiction author Andy Weir reached out to me (!!!) to ask if I would make some custom bindings of his works for him, to which I enthusiastically agreed! This video is Part One of my adventure.
With so much time and effort behind this project, I want to share as much of it with you as I can. I've been posting sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes footage over on my Patreon, which I've curated into a single collection which you can find here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/1909083. This project was largely funded by patrons, so your support is greatly appreciated!
In addition, I've also launched my first Digital Marbled Paper set, which includes none other than the endpapers I make in this video, and which will ultimately end up on Andy Weir's shelf. I scanned them before putting them into the books and have made them available to purchase here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/project-hail-set-150260155
If you want to learn more about paper marbling itself, check out my Paper Marbling Playlist:

As for this episode, I've tried not to leave anything out, but I still left a lot of footage on the cutting room floor to keep this episode to a reasonable length. I will no doubt continue to add to the 'Behind the Scenes collection over on Patreon. In any event, this installment covers my initial design brainstorming, evaluation and pulling of the books, spine reinforcement, making the marbled papers, constructing and attaching the endpapers, trimming the books to size, and then finally edge-marbling the text blocks.
In Part Two I'll turn my attention to making the covers, which will be coming soon!
Cheers,
Dennis
