This is the story of Project Hail Mary, a remarkable novel penned by The Martian author, Andy Weir, that’s now been made into a major motion picture by Amazon MGM Studios.

It’s an intergalactic adventure that touches on the science of solar dimming and the complexities of keeping humans alive during on long-distance journeys, peppered with some creative license that makes for a thrilling sci-fi read. Ahead of the cinematic release, we caught up with author Andy Weir to find out how you invent an alien – or an alien atmosphere, for that matter – and what it was like to see his creation brought to live as a very real, very technical puppet.
