About this video
So he's absolutely right, you can't be expecting to add weight to the bar every single week. But, that's not what progressive overload actually is. Progressive overload just means an increase in performance over time - it doesn't always have to be in the form of additional weight.
It can also mean more reps with the same weight. One extra rep is still significant, even half a rep counts, I personally log third and quarter reps on some lifts because as you get more advanced it's normal for progress to happen in smaller increments.
It could even mean the same weight and reps, but if last week the final one was an all out grinder and this week it moved faster, that's still progression.
And if you are adding weight, it doesn't always have to be 5 pounds either. It could be 2 and a half pounds, it could even be 1 pound - as long as you're consistently moving forward in some measurable way.
And if your workouts, nutrition and recovery are on point, progress won't magically come to a halt unless you're literally at the upper limit of your genetic
potential.
