Sreekumar Achary, born on January 5, 1951, is more commonly recognized by his stage name Jagathy Sreekumar or simply Jagathy. He is a prominent Indian actor, director, and playback singer, having appeared in over 1,500 Malayalam films throughout a career that has spanned nearly four decades. Renowned as one of the greatest comedians in the realm of Malayalam cinema, he is also celebrated for his ability to portray complex character roles. He is the son of the esteemed playwright and author, the late Jagathy N. K. Achary.

Jagathy Sreekumar has received five Kerala State Film Awards, among numerous accolades for his performances in various films. In addition to acting, he has directed two films and contributed screenplays for two others. His stage name is inspired by the Jagathy neighborhood in Thiruvananthapuram, where he grew up. Known for his articulate speeches and strong opinions, he contrasts sharply with his comedic on-screen persona, and his oratory remains well-regarded.

Following a serious vehicle accident in March 2012, Jagathy was hospitalized for over a year and has yet to fully recover from his injuries. His film career has been on hiatus since the incident. However, in May 2022, he made a comeback to cinema with a role in CBI 5: The Brain, directed by K. Madhu. In this film, he reprised his iconic character CID Vikram from earlier installments of the CBI series, albeit without any dialogue.
