Najib's 1MDB trial verdict Friday

On Boxing Day, the High Court will deliver its decision in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s RM2.3 billion 1MDB trial, closing one chapter of his long legal battles.

After more than seven years of proceedings, Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah will rule on four charges of misappropriation and 21 counts of money laundering. Najib has denied all allegations, insisting the funds were political donations and that he was misled.

The prosecution argues Najib was the ultimate decision‑maker who benefitted from complex financial manoeuvres, while the defence claims the case is riddled with gaps and political motives.

If reasonable doubt is established, Najib will be acquitted. Otherwise, he faces conviction and sentencing, though he can seek a stay of execution pending appeal.

The trial spanned 293 days, with testimony from 76 witnesses, including former 1MDB leaders and Bank Negara officials. Najib is already serving a sentence in Kajang Prison for the SRC International case.
