Massive 7.5 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Japan, Leaving Dozens Injured

About this video

At least 30 people have been injured in an earthquake in north-eastern Japan.

Thousands were forced to evacuate their homes.

Around 2,700 homes have been left without power, according to the Aomori prefectural government.

The earthquake occurred at 23:15 local time, around 50 kilometres below the sea surface
off the coast of Hokkaido.

This is the moment a Japanese twitch streamer received an alert whilst on a live broadcast.

The quake had a powerful magnitude of 7.5, and a mega quake advisory has been issued, warning that a larger earthquake could follow.

This is the first time a top tier alert has been issued since the system was introduced in 2022.

90,000 people have been advised to take shelter.

However, tsunami alerts have now been lifted.
