Lululemon filed a lawsuit Friday accusing Costco of copying its patented athleisure designs and selling them under its Kirkland Signature brand, according to NPR. The complaint alleges Costco is unlawfully trading on Lululemon’s reputation by offering unauthorized apparel at lower prices. The apparel retailer cited social media trends, such as the hashtag “LululemonDupes,” as evidence of consumer confusion. Lululemon emphasized the importance of protecting its intellectual property, citing its heavy investment in design and innovation. The suit marks a high-profile clash between the $10 billion athletic brand and the wholesale giant, which reported $254.5 billion in revenue in fiscal 2024. Costco has not responded to requests for comment.
