LPG Shortage Hits Maharashtra Hotels 🚨

Maharashtra's hotel and restaurant body AHAR has approached the State Civil Supplies Ministry seeking intervention over an acute LPG crisis affecting commercial establishments. Restaurants report having only two days of LPG supply remaining, with wedding bookings and restaurant operations severely impacted. Food Minister Chagan Bhujbal addressed the assembly, clarifying that while household LPG supply remains unaffected, there are significant imbalances in commercial LPG distribution that require government resolution. The central government has invoked the Essential Commodities Act to prevent hoarding of LPG cylinders and ensure availability at fair prices. The Act, which regulates supply of essential commodities during emergencies and extraordinary price rises, makes violations punishable with three months to seven years imprisonment. The law aims to prevent artificial shortages and price inflation.
