Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy then put together 72 runs and the former also added 50 runs with Washington Sundar and finished with his third consecutive 50+ score in Test cricket. India lost wickets at the end and were bowled out for 387, matching England's first innings total. For England, Chris Woakes turned out to be the best bowler as he picked up three wickets (3/84) while Ben Stokes (2/63) and Jofra Archer (2/52) scalped two each. Shoaib Bashir (1/59) and Brydon Carse (1/88) got one wicket each. England then came out to bat for just one over bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, a period which saw some drama with Shubman Gill getting into a heated exchange with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett.
