Starmer Faces Scrutiny Over Iran Stance 🇬🇧

Sir Keir Starmer is expected to face questions over his decision to defy Donald Trump on the war in Iran.

The Prime Minister will use a press conference at 10.30am to set out a support package worth £50m for households whose bills have been most affected by the energy crisis after the conflict choked off the world’s oil supplies and sent costs soaring.

However, Sir Keir is currently refusing to heed Mr Trump’s demand that the UK send warships to help to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route.

The Prime Minister’s refusal to join American and Israeli offensive action against Iran has plunged the UK-US special relationship into its worst crisis for many years.

Overnight, Mr Trump singled out the UK as he warned Nato allies that they faced a “very bad” future unless they agreed to his request for reinforcements.
