Presented by ABS-CBN News Documentaries, “A National Calamity” is a 2025 documentary by journalist Francis Orcio that looks into the onslaught and the aftermath of Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi) in the Visayas region in Central Philippines. The documentary traces the typhoon’s landfall and its immediate impact on Cebu, Leyte and other provinces in Central and Eastern Visayas.

With the widespread devastation, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of national calamity. Official figures show that at least 188 dead and more than a hundred are missing as of November 7. Typhoon-hit residents continue to plea for aid and relief.

The latest tragedy comes just over a month after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Northern Cebu, killing dozens.
