About this video
3.NF. 3
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3
Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.3.B
Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3. Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Example: Find the Equivalent for 2/6
Step 1: Draw a rectangular bar model
Step 2: Split it through the middle horizontally
Step 3: On the top bar, break it into sixths (from 2/6) and label the unit fractions
Step 4: On the bottom bar, break it into thirds (3 is a fact of 6) and label the unit fraction.
Step 5: Shade in 2/6 on the top bar
Step 6: On the bottom bar, shade in the SAME AMOUNT OF SHADED SPACE AS THE TOP BAR
Step 7: write your equivalent fraction down! 2/6 = 1/3
