Creed III Suite: A Top 2023 Score 🎶

So far, one of my favorite scores of 2023, and a really great addition to the "Rocky universe". Joseph Shirley took over Ludwig Göransson, and provided a fitting development of his musical landscape to this new story, incorporting a couple of his own ideas into the mix. The suite contains some of my favorite portions of the score as a whole, and I tried to keep all the different themes in there, including some references to Göransson's Creed theme and even one of Bill Conti's classic themes from the Rocky saga.

The first couple of minutes are a sonic battle between Felix material and Dame's theme. You can hear Felix' theme at 0:40 and 1:40, in both cases soon interrupted by Dame's imposing theme at 0:55 and 1:56. Then we jump into The Void, with some interesting uses of synths and voices to highlight the emotional stakes of the confrontation between Adonis and Dame, leading to a soft statement of a new theme at 3:51, one used through the movie to represent their confrontations, functioning as a sort of "Champion theme". Hints of the Creed theme pop up before the Champion theme returns during Round 12. The music tones down and goes almost quiet, before a majestic choral motif appears at 5:51. Creed regains his strength and the music starts to confront his theme and the Champion theme against Dame's theme in a fierce fight, until Conti's Victory theme appears at 6:58, signifying Creed's victory over Dame, joined by some references to the Creed theme.

Then, we have the emotional aftermath with multiple references to the choral motif and the Champion theme, leading up to a full statement of Adonis' Family theme at 9:57, an idea derived from the Champion theme used to represent him, Bianca and their daughter Amara. The Creed theme appears at 11:02 leading to an emotional statement of the choral motif, before the Creed theme takes over for a triumphant ending.
