China: No novel pathogens in rising respiratory illness
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that northern China has seen an increase in ‘influenza-like illness’ since mid-October, with China's National Health Commission attributing this to the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions and the circulation of known pathogens. The WHO said that Chinese authorities confirmed no detection of unusual or novel pathogens in the respiratory illnesses spreading in the region. The spike is primarily linked to influenza and common bacterial infections affecting children, according to the National Health Commission.
