Chandigarh Slum-Free Drive: Major Encroachments Cleared by UT Administration

In its mission to make Chandigarh a slum-free city, the UT Administration has intensified its action against illegal encroachments.

Recently, nearly 1,000 jhuggis in Sanjay Colony, Industrial Area Phase-1 were demolished, reclaiming around 6 acres of government land. Now, the focus shifts to Janta Colony, Sector 25, spread across 10 acres, where approximately 2,500 shanties still stand.

A special document verification camp was held to assess the eligibility of residents for rehabilitation under the Central Government’s Affordable Rental Housing scheme. Out of all who submitted papers, none qualified based on the scheme’s criteria
