Chandigarh Declared India’s First Slum-Free City

Chandigarh has officially become India’s first slum-free city! 🚨 With the demolition of Shahpur Colony, the last remaining slum, the UT Administration has successfully reclaimed more than 520 acres of prime land. This marks the end of a 12-year long slum removal drive that has transformed Chandigarh into a model urban city.

From the clearance of Kalyan Colony (89 acres in 2014) to Ambedkar Colony (65 acres in 2014) and Colony No. 4 (65 acres in 2022), Chandigarh has been consistently working towards slum rehabilitation and smart urban development. The final demolition of Shahpur Colony in 2025 recovered another 5 acres of land worth over ₹2,500 crore, making Chandigarh a benchmark for slum-free India.
