Celebrate 150 Years of IMD with Special Rs 150 Proof Coin Set 🌧️

A Rs 150 commemorative coin was issued to mark the 150 years of India Meteorological Department (IMD). The proof coin set was minted and issued by the India Government Mint, Mumbai.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), established in 1875, is the principal agency of the Government of India responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting, and seismology. Operating under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, IMD plays a critical role in monitoring and predicting weather patterns to support disaster management, agriculture, aviation, and public safety.

The metal composition of the ₹150 coin consists of Pure Silver (99.9%). The coin weighs 40 grams and has a diameter of 44 mm, featuring 200 serrations along the edge.

The obverse depicts the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar at the center, with the legend “सत्यमेव जयते” inscribed below. The words “भारत” and “INDIA” appear on the left and right periphery, respectively, with the rupee symbol “₹” and the denomination “150” placed below the Ashoka Lion Capital.

On the reverse, the coin bears the logo of 150 Years celebration of India Meteorological Department. The inscription “भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग के 150 वर्ष” and “आदित्यात् जायते वृष्टि:” written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery of the coin and the inscription “150 Years of India Meteorological Department” in English depicted on the lower periphery of the coin. The year “1875-2025” written below the logo in international numbers.

This coin appeals to collectors interested in the nation’s institutional achievements. The proof set was issued at a price of ₹7,325 through the India Government Mint’s official website.
