California Highway Patrol Recovers Stolen Car Belonging to Transgender Friend in Oakland 🚓

On February 22, 2025, a California Highway Patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a Ford C-Max on Interstate 80 in Berkeley, California. The vehicle was initially pulled over for a burnt-out brake light. The driver exited the freeway at University Avenue and came to a stop near Second Street. Upon the officer running the plates through the Golden Gate Communications Center, he discovered the car had been reported stolen by the Oakland Police several days earlier. The driver, 26-year-old Deshawn Anthony Dowell Thornton, was immediately taken into custody. He told police he had taken the vehicle from a transgender friend several days earlier after a dispute and claimed he was attempting to return it. Despite being contacted, the registered owner never arrived to reclaim the vehicle. Berry Brothers Towing was called to remove the car from the scene.
Deshawn Anthony Dowell Thornton also had warrant for failure to appear out of Solano County for $100,000 he was also arrested for the following charges and booked into the Berkeley Jail:

496(A) Receiving Or Concealing Stolen Property.
12500(A) Drive W/O License.
