About this video
Amazon Elastic File System or EFS is a serverless file storage system that can be used with Amazon compute and on-premises servers. It lets you share files without provisioning or managing storage capacity.
Hi Guys, this is Abi from GokceDB and in this video, you are going to learn 9 things about Amazon EFS in AWS. Let's get into it.
1. Amazon EFS allows you to quickly create shared file systems for AWS compute services such as EC2, EKS, Fargate, and Lambda functions. It also supports access semantics such as strong consistency and file locking.
2. EFS provides high performance for a broad range of workloads such as big data analytics, content management, web services, and home directories.
3. To access your file system from an EC2 instance, you mount the file system on an EC2 Linux-based instance using the standard Linux mount command and the file systemโs DNS name. Or use the Amazon EFS mount helper utility. Once mounted, you can work with the files and directories in your file system like you would with a local file system.
4. Since the Amazon EFS file systems are elastic, it automatically grows and shrinks as you add and remove files. This means that thereโs no need to provision file system size up front, and you only pay for what you use.
5. AWS DataSync provides a fast way to securely sync existing file systems with Amazon EFS over any network connection. You can also use standard Linux copy tools to move data files to Amazon EFS.
6. By default, Amazon EFS file systems are built to provide throughput that scales with the amount of storage in your file system. It also supports bursting to higher levels for up to 12 hours a day.
7. EFS Intelligent-Tiering is designed to deliver automatic cost savings for workloads with changing access patterns using the EFS Lifecycle Management. This can help you reduce costs by up to 92 percent by automatically moving infrequently accessed files.
8. By default, every EFS file system object such as a directory, file, or link is redundantly stored across multiple AZs for file systems. The service is designed to sustain concurrent device failures by quickly detecting and repairing any lost redundancy.
9. As of this recording, you get 5 GB of standard storage for 12 months with the AWS Free Tier. To get started, you can create your EFS file system using the EC2 Launch Instance Wizard, EFS console, CLI, or the EFS API.
In summary, Amazon EFS allows you to securely access your files with a fully managed file system designed for high durability and availability.
There you have it.
