廟會中，戲棚上正精采熱鬧的演歌仔戲，一場『指腹為婚』的戲碼，讓戲台下大腹便便的洪茶與滿足靈機一動，索性學起了戲子，為兩人肚子裡的孩子指腹為婚，訂下了終身。 滿足的丈夫粗皮雄和洪茶的丈夫卓有春，是一對從小鬥到大的冤家！起初兩人並不同意這樁指腹為婚的婚事，最後在里長伯的極力勸說之下，無奈地答應下來。孩子在眾人期盼之中誕生了，滿足生個女兒招弟，洪茶生個壯丁天送，自此兩家親家長親家短互稱了好幾年！
本劇改編自廖風德原作小說《隔壁親家》，1999年12月15日開播，2006年5月12日停播，此期間共播出2248集，長達將近七年。
