Did you know why the Indian Women's and Australian Women's teams wore black armbands on their hands during the semi-final match between India vs Australia?

It was a touching and sombre moment as both teams stepped onto the field with black armbands, worn as a heartfelt tribute to the tragic death of a young Australian cricketer, Ben Austin.

Ben Austin, a 17-year-old aspiring cricketer, dreamed of playing at the highest level. The tragic incident occurred while he was practicing in the nets in Melbourne for an upcoming match. A ball delivered from a bowling machine hit Ben hard on his neck.

Despite wearing a helmet, the accident happened because Ben was not wearing a 'neck guard' (or 'stem guard')—the crucial protective flap that safeguards the back of the neck.

Ben suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital. However, despite the best efforts of the medical team, Austin sadly passed away yesterday morning (on the day of the semi-final).

In a show of unity and respect that transcends rivalry, the players from both the Indian Women's and Australian Women's teams wore the black armbands to honour the memory of Ben Austin and his passion for the game.
