About this video

Circuit switching, packet switching, and message switching are three methods of data transmission that are used in computer networks and other communication systems.

There are several key differences between these three methods:

Circuit switching: In circuit switching, a dedicated communication path is established between the sender and receiver for the duration of the communication. This method is commonly used in telephone systems, where a circuit is established between two phones when a call is placed. Circuit switching is generally efficient and reliable, but it can be expensive and inflexible, as it requires a dedicated communication path to be established for each communication.

Packet switching: In packet switching, data is divided into small units called packets, which are transmitted independently over the network. Packets are routed to their destination based on their destination address, and can take different paths to reach their destination. Packet switching is generally more flexible and efficient than circuit switching, as it allows multiple users to share a single communication channel. However, it is less reliable, as packets can be lost or damaged in transit.

Message switching: In message switching, data is transmitted in the form of messages, which are stored and forwarded by intermediate nodes. Message switching is generally slower than circuit switching and packet switching, as it requires the storage and forwarding of messages by intermediate nodes. However, it is generally more reliable, as it allows for the retransmission of lost or damaged messages.
