In this short snippet, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan reflects on Allah’s words {أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّاءٍ مَّهِينٍ} (77:20), “*Did We not create you from weak water?”* The Quran confronts the arrogance of the Quraysh and all of us, by reminding us of our true beginnings.

No matter how wealthy, powerful or respected we may become, our starting point was the same as everyone else: a drop of fluid, powerless and unseen, not even known to our own mothers at first. Every bone, feature and faculty we have was designed for us without our input or merit.

This verse strips away false pride and calls us to humility and gratitude. Honor is not self-made, it is given by Allah and it can be taken away.
