About this video
To many, Australia’s Outback seems barren and inhospitable — a vast, sun-scorched wilderness with little life to offer. But look closer, and a very different picture emerges.
In this original wildlife documentary, Secrets of the Outback explores the remarkable plants and animals that call this harsh environment home. From iconic red kangaroos and emus, to echidnas, wallaroos, yellow-footed rock wallabies, and reptiles like the central pebble dragon and venomous brown snake, life in the Outback is anything but empty.
We also meet the apex predators of these skies — wedge-tailed eagles — and discover how desert-adapted species have evolved to survive extreme heat, scarce water, and unpredictable rainfall.
Filmed across some of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes — including the Flinders Ranges, and Lake Eyre — this natural history film reveals the complex ecosystems and incredible survival strategies of creatures living on the edge.
