AirPlay allows you to share or broadcast what you see on your iOS device with a TV or projector. It's a great idea for presentations and home video viewing, but it is also riddled with shortcomings that one can only hope is resolved in future software updates.
Some apps, like Netflix, work great with AirPlay. Allowing you to use the iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone as a fancy remote control, AirPlay shows the actual video itself without interruption while you're still free to browse the Netflix Library in search of the next movie.
Where AirPlay really demonstrates some shortcomings is in how it interacts with unsupported third-party applications. Both audio and video performance appear to be impacted by this occasional lag that occurs while using AirPlay.
Have you tried AirPlay yet? What was your experience like?
