Rong Qi is the young emperor of Western Qi, and to gain power, his mother the dowager empress has controlled him for his entire life, as a puppet emperor.

Rong Qi is intelligent, considerate and strives to be a good emperor. His only fault is to be in forbidden love with his younger sister Rong Le, but he does not see their love as a sin.

His real wish in life, is to make Rong Le happy and to blissfully live in peace as a couple.

To achieve this, Rong Qi will have to get out of the dowager empress's control, and remove all obstacles that prevent his union with Rong Le.

A difficult goal, that is suddenly made much harder as Rong Le develops amnesia, and the dowager empress is determined to send Rong Le to Northern Lin, for an arranged alliance marriage.
