Tesla's Elon Musk and OpenAI's Sam Altman Make Bold Predictions on Availability of AGI

Elon Musk predicted AGI would be available by 2026, while OpenAI's Sam Altman said it could come in the "reasonably close-ish future." AGI broadly refers to AI that is as smart or smarter than humans. Robin Li, CEO of Chinese tech giant Baidu, said artificial general intelligence is more than 10 years away. Li said current powerful AI models are still far from the level of human intelligence needed for AGI. Chinese tech firms heavily invest in AI but focus more on applications than foundational models like the US. Li said there is no "killer app" yet for AI with the scale of users as platforms like Instagram.
