FC Dallas Falls To CF Montréal, 2-1

A win tonight would have secured FC Dallas’ first time beginning a season with back-to-back victories since 2015, but CF Montréal had other plans with the 2-1 scoreline in favor of the Montréalers.

One could say that Petar Musa’s debut was spoiled, with CF Montréal’s Jules-Anthony Vilsaint, Mahala Opoku’s substitute, scoring first in the 20th minute and Musa’s goal after it being called offside—but one could also see the call getting overturned and equalizing it at 1-all heading into the half as a positive.

How you choose to perceive it is up to you, and maybe it was not how one may have pictured Musa’s first MLS goal, but you know the saying—a goal, is a goal.

Musa’s goal started with a lofted ball being played to Bernard Kamungo inside the 18-yard-box, headed down, serving it on a platter for Musa to bury with his right foot past Jonathan Siroir.

Then, Josef Martínez scored another for the Montréalers in the 60th minute.

But FC Dallas fans were cheering after that—not for Montréal’s goal, but for Jesús Ferreira subbing on to see his first game-action of the season, getting to play up top alongside the Moose.

A pairing that many have been excited for.

Even more applause erupted for Paxton Pomykal making his return to the pitch in the 84th minute, but that was followed by groans for a near Nkosi Tafari goal saved by Siroir.

FC Dallas can no longer say that they have an unbeaten-at-home streak, dating back to July 4th of last year, in the MLS regular season anymore.

And while tonight was the second of CF Montréal’s six straight away-games, next Saturday will be FC Dallas’ first road game at Red Bull Arena for a matchup with New York Red Bulls, kicking off at 6:30 p.m. CST.
