Giant Halibut Landed Off Massachusetts On ‘80s-Style Fiberglass Rod

Angler Nick Kirychuk was fishing a six-foot solid fiberglass 1980s-style boat rod, fitted with a Penn Jigmaster reel, when he hooked a 190-pound halibut using a 12-ounce jig in 240 feet of water. Most records for Atlantic halibut come from places such as Norway and Greenland, but this outsized catch came off the coast of Gloucester.
