Enigma Code, saving
thousands of lives during the war. After the war, Turing was
convicted of gross indecency,
a Victorian-era homophobic law. Turing was forced to choose
between imprisonment
or chemical castration. He chose chemical castration.
Two years later,
Turing died by suicide. In 2009, British Prime Minister
Gordon Brown offered a formal
apology for the treatment Turing received.
In 2014, he was granted a royal pardon. Turing will appear on the new
£50 note by the end of 2021.
