Timelapse Captures Stunning Bioluminescent Bloom in Big Sur

California resident George Krieger captured stunning timelapse footage of the bioluminescent bloom lighting up the ocean in Big Sur on February 6.

The high rate of bioluminescence currently being seen in California’s seas is likely caused by a ‘dinoflagellate bloom’, according to reports.

Krieger told Storyful he went to Big Sur with the intention of photographing the rare occurrence as part of his Passion Therapy, which he as rehabilitation after surviving a head-on collision. Credit: George Krieger via Storyful
