About this video
Lets be honest, unless you are in the extremely small club of powerlifters who live and die by their deadlifts or you're an athlete in a sport who does it because you got told it was a good idea, the rest of the world think deadlifts are irrelevant and worse than that dangerous.
A lot of bodybuilders see it as a one way ticket to injury and then there is the minutest minority of people in the world that aren't competing and have no desire to compete but have fallen for the idea that there is a greater significance to deadlifting some specific number for reps
They believe that their lives will quantitatively and meaningfully change if they can hit a say 500lbs deadlift. [227kgs]
So how true is it?
Will there be a hulk like transformation as they move from 315 (140kgs) to 500 (227kgs) and for the girls do you get booty beauty if you can do over the ton?
How many people actually need Deadlifts in their life?
If your world comprises of little ones who are all about 1-2 foot off the floor, bending is going to be a big part of your day. When you had a kid, you sentenced yourself to at least 18 years of picking things up off the floor repetitively and even longer if you get married. Now you tell me, do you need Deadlifts?
You may not be into all that gym stuff but let's face it, DIY is your domain and if there's something heavy and awkward to move, guess who's getting the call up. Knowing how to handle that so you can go back to enjoying watching sports or bicep curling your pint could be helpful.
Deadlift has no age. Hip fracture in the elderly is one of the strongest correlators to mortality because when the person loses their mobility, its a very steep and slippery slope. Ask any nurse dealing with the elderly. Deadlifts keep the hip mechanics functioning.
In personal growth terms, it is one part of a 10,000 piece jigsaw.
Ironically, girls who deadlift illustrate this the best. They increase the weight they lift, self confidence improves because they are proud of what they can do and their self perception changes for the better.
And Social stigma prevents the vast majority of them from defining themselves by deadlifting alone. Women tend not to fall into the trap of using it as a self confidence cow that they milk dry in search of ever greater amounts of self worth.
I never thought Id be saying social stigma was a good thing.
They may have a bad reputation and a scary name but whether you know it or not, you're currently using deadlifts daily.
And until technology can find a way to make bending obsolete or we evolve enough to use telekinesis, this is you're way to defy the effects of gravity, get a better body and increase your confidence.
so this is one exercise that you might want to think about a relationship with.
I hope this helped you look at deadlifts in a new light.
