Largest Amphetamine Factory Discovered in Poland

Police say it's the biggest amphetamine factory ever discovered in Poland.

Police say they seized nearly 20 kilograms of high quality amphetamine with a street value of around 150,000 euros or more than 200,000 dollars.

Two men were arrested.

(SOUNDBITE) (Polish) WARSAW POLICE PRESS OFFICER, ROBERT OPAS, SAYING:

"Policemen from the anti-narcotics and operational units entered a property near Warsaw and found a professional laboratory used for amphetamine production."

While other narcotics like cocaine tend to be imported, amphetamine is produced locally in Poland both for domestic consumption, and export.

"This is probably the biggest drugs factory in Poland."

Police officials say amphetamines are now seen as a Polish "national product" and that homegrown chemists have become quote "specialists" in its production.
