UK and Russia 'can overcome Syria differences'

Russia and Britain can overcome their differences on the Syria conflict, British Prime Minister David Cameron said after meeting President Vladimir Putin in London.

The meeting was held on the eve of Monday's Group of Eight (G8) summit.

Moscow supplies weapons to the Syrian government, while the United States, Britain, and France are leading efforts to arm the opposition.

Neither side wants a proxy war, but their positions on Syria remain divided.

Al Jazeera's Diplomatic Editor James Bays reporting from Northern Ireland, says: "There is very little trust and not much chance of a breakthrough."
