About this video

Did you know that Mary, Queen of Scots, was also the Queen of France? This video is all about the Catholic Queen of Scotland, and briefly the queen of France, Mary Queen of Scots. Mary, Queen of Scots was the queen of both Scotland (r. 1542-1567) and briefly, France (r. 1559-1560). Obliged to flee Scotland, the queen was imprisoned for 19 years by Elizabeth I of England (r. 1558-1603) and finally executed for treason on 8 February 1587. Brought up in France and then marrying the heir to the French throne, Mary's world was turned upside down when her husband Francis II died in 1560 one year into his reign. The queen returned to Scotland but her Catholic views clashed with Protestants there and two more husbands and murder plots further discredited her reign. Following her forced abdication by Scottish nobles, Mary fled to England where she plotted unsuccessfully to oust her cousin Elizabeth I of England. — SUPPORT US VIA OUR PATREON— https://www.patreon.com/join/whencyclopedia — BUY OUR MERCH — https://www.worldhistory.store/ — CHAPTERS — 0:00 Introduction 0:42 Who is Mary Queen of Scots? 1:58 Mary as Queen of France 3:13 Queen Mary in Scotland 5:58 Mary Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I of England 8:23 Outro — WANT TO KNOW MORE? — Mary, Queen of Scots https://www.worldhistory.org/Mary_Queen_of_Scots/ Elizabeth I of England https://www.worldhistory.org/Elizabeth_I_of_England/ Mary of Guise https://www.worldhistory.org/Mary_of_Guise/ John Knox https://www.worldhistory.org/John_Knox/ James V of Scotland https://www.worldhistory.org/James_V_of_Scotland/ — WATCH NEXT — The Real History of the Library of Alexandria https://youtu.be/UQxNxc8rNWI The Birthplace of Western Philosophy - History of Ionia https://youtu.be/sJp0_hCPeiU The Poet and Scholar Callimachus of Cyrene https://youtu.be/E6lYw2va4xg The Wars of the Roses: Causes and Consequences https://youtu.be/JB5VqD4A6R8 — ATTRIBUTIONS — You can find all attribution and credits for images, animations, graphics and music here - https://athena.worldhistory.org/article/Mary-Queen-of-Scots-Images-and-Attributions The music used in this recording is the intellectual copyright of Michael Levy, a prolific composer for the recreated lyres of antiquity, and used with the creator's permission.
